Reflections on the 2018 VAF Conference in Alexandria, VA

I was recently asked to write about my experience winning the Access Award from the Vernacular Architecture Forum (VAF). The Access Award as described by VAF:

β€œIn an effort to bring fresh voices to the study of vernacular buildings and landscapes the Access Award supports first-time attendance by scholars and students with limited professional exposure to the fields of architectural history and vernacular studies, as well as by practitioners and independent scholars in the field.”

This allowed me to attend their 2018 conference in Alexandria, Virginia in May.
